League of Legends is one of the world’s most popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) video games, developed by Riot Games. In its 10 years of existence it has gathered millions of players and fans around the world, making it the largest esports community.
League of Legends has big plans for the future. In order to expand beyond the game itself the task for Pentagram was clear: update the League of Legends wordmark and monogram to be competitive against the top tier entertainment brands.
We started from a geometric typeface to base the new characters on, while keeping some of the details of its original letters. We balanced out the hierarchy between the words clarifying that “Legends” isn’t more important than “League.” The result is a clear, contemporary, and highly adaptable wordmark, easy to transport to any kind of physical and digital media.
